I have a few projects located in my www folder ( running windows 7 ). My hostfile has the line 127.0.0.1 Wamp is good, I use it. It can be a pain when you have to updage/downgrade for testing, but otherwise it should suffice. Sometimes setting up perl and whatnot can be annoying but its possible. If you just need wamp for like wordpress than its 100% functional.
